Algarve

Moorish capital of the Algarve, steeped in history this inland city is worth the visit

Silves Silves is not your typical Algarvean city/town. It was once the capital of the Algarve (Under the Moors of 9-12th Century). It is steeped in history and as soon as you approach the city you are met with the imposing red brick castle and walls – a beautiful site from all sides! Don’t miss the gothic cathedral built on site of a mosque leading up to the castle.
There are distinctive Moorish influences throughout the city and it is a joy to explore the cobbled streets, a highlight of the year is the Silves Medieval fair in the summer! The Arade river travels up from the estuary at Ferragudo/Portimão and through Silves. The city centre comprises of charming traditional townhouses and apartments and on the outskirts amongst the famous orange groves you will find countryside villas. As with all towns/villages/cities in the area there are a great selection of restaurants, supermarkets, shops, health centers etc making it a popular spot for investment and relocation
