Portugal has come out on top at the latest World Travel Awards, after being voted Europe’s leading destination for 2018.
The awards, often referred to as the Oscars of tourism, saw Portugal picking up a number of awards, not only for the tourism hotspot of the Algarve but also for businesses and services across the country and the islands of the Azores and Madeira.
Passadiços do Paiva won the award for Europe’s leading adventure tourist attraction, the Portuguese flag carrier TAP was voted as the leading airline to South America in Europe, while the Pestana Porto Santo was seen as the best All Inclusive resort in Europe.
In the Algarve there were also some big awards won with Hotel Quinta do Lago being voted as the leading beach resort in Europe while Vila Joya near Albufeira, held on to their award for the leading boutique resort in Europe. Vila Vita Parc near to Porches was also another winner on the evening, receiving the award for Europe´s leading luxury hotel and villas.
As well as Europe wide awards, there were also awards given to various businesses and services on a country wide basis, with prizes being awarded to hotels, suites, companies and residencies in Lisbon, the Algarve and in Madeira.
The World Travel Awards (WTA) was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry.
